Dolly Rebecca Parton
Dolly Rebecca Parton was born on the
19th of January, 1946 in Pittman Center, Tennessee and raised in Sevierville,
Tennessee to Avie Lee Parton, a homewife and Robert Lee Parton, a tobacco
farmer. When she was 12, she was already on Knoxville TV. At 13 she was already
recording on a label of a small size and performing on the Grand Ole Opry. She
moved to Nashville in 1964 to begin her singing career after she had graduated
from high school. Carl Dean, an asphalt-paving entrepreneur, fell for her and
they got married on May 30th, 1966. Porter Wagoner hired her in 1967 to sing on
his show, The Porter Wagoner Show (1961). She remained on the show for seven
years, her duets became famous, and she sang with the Porter Wagoner group at
the Grand Ole Opry. She also sold records and toured. Her smash hit
"Joshua", which reached the top spot in 1970 was her biggest hit
single. She chose to go on her own and remained with the group, even though she
recorded duets with him. The singer had left and went solo in 1974. Dolly
became a huge hit as a singer/songwriter. Dolly received numerous Country Music
Association awards (1968 1970, 1970, 1971, 1975, and 1976). The diminutive
(5'0") beauty was a perfect fit for television. In the late 1970s, she was
regularly appearing on television specials, talk shows and prior to getting her
own Dolly (1976). In 1977, Dolly got her first Grammy award: Best Female
Country Vocal Performance for her hit song "Here You Go Again." Dolly
made her movie debut in the film 9 to 5 in the year 1980. She received
nominations for an Oscar for the title song, as well as Grammy awards 2/3: Best
Country Song and Best Female Country Vocal Performance. Her fame grew due to
her roles in The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas (1982) and as along with Rhinestone
(1984) and Rhinestone (1984), with the song "Tennessee Homesick
Blues". Dolly Parton Enterprises, worth $100 million, is her main.
Dollywood was established in Pigeon Forge in Tennessee in 1986 to celebrate her
Smoky Mountain roots. She was in the Dolly (1987) television show. She was
awarded another Grammy in 1988, this time for the Best Country Performance
Duo/Group with Vocals in the category of "Trio".
